Internet safety and responsible use of technology is a tenet of being a good digital citizen.  At Columbine Middle School we strive to ensure that your child stays safe and acts responsibly while using online educational resources.  Each quarter we teach digital citizenship lessons either through computer class with Mr. Wollert or through your child’s core classes.  Below are some links that your family can use to practice good digital citizenship at home.

Common Sense Media:  This is a great website for finding out all sorts of information related to media consumption for your kids.  As they state, “Common Sense is the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. We empower parents, teachers, and policymakers by providing unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids’ lives.”

Netsmartz:  Netsmartz is a part of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  Its pupose is to provide resources to help teach children how to be safer on and off-line.

Setting up Parental Controls:  This link from Common Sense Media explains how to set up parental controls on your media devices at home.

Safe 2 Tell

All kids should feel safe here at Columbine and in our community. If your child is involved in or witnesses any type of behavior that is hurtful or unsafe, we would like to know about it. Please report it to our office in person or give us a call at 249-2581. If you or your child do not feel comfortable reporting an incident in person, we offer an alternative option through Safe 2 tell. Safe 2 tell gives our students, parents and school, another avenue for reporting behaviors that are hurtful or unsafe. Click on the safe 2 tell logo for more information.

It’s that time again! We are participating in the Pennies for Patients campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). This will begin Friday, March 1 and will end Friday, March 15.

Change Wars
There will be a coin jar for each grade level in the front office. Pennies are positive and silver coins/dollars are negative. Each grade level will want to put as many pennies in their own jar to add to the total amount while putting silver coins/dollars in the other jars to subtract from their amounts.
Friday, March 15th-Delay the day
At the start of 1st hour students will pile money on teacher’s desk. Teacher can’t start class until all of the money has been counted. While teachers are counting money, students can play iPad games, do homework, free read, etc.
